"Ruines Flottantes"
Installation at Usines Fagor for the 16th Biennale of Contemporary Art Lyon, entitled „Manifesto of Fragility“
The Installation is presented alongside photographs of several sculptural interventions in and around Lyon. The sculptural parts are accompanied by video screens playing altered footage of the interventions and a 19min sound piece composed for this occasion.
"Inspired by the local heritage landscape, Clemens Behr makes pop-up sculptural installations that last the time he needs to take his photo, in architectural landmarks of the Lyon area (Sainte Marie-Lyon secondary school in La Verpillière; the Auditorium, home to the Orchestre National de Lyon; Musée Lugdunum; and the Cité des Étoiles housing estate in Givors). Then, at the Fagor Factory, he is showing a composite piece made with elements used in his site-specific constructions. Reappropriating inexpensive everyday materials, which have not been designed to last, and to which he adds sound and light, Behr reassembles ancient and Brutalist architecture. Blending reconstruction of the old and destruction of the future, the artist’s ruins probe the fragile utopias of Brutalist architecture, built for eternity on the promise of a better world."
